Overview of the Department:

Microbiology forms the basis for understanding the nature and pathogenesis of various infectious diseases and the role of the immune system in combating these diseases. The department of Microbiology caters to all the in-patients and out patients visiting the teaching hospital. The department offers services in the branches of bacteriology, serology, parasitology and mycology. The department follows the curriculum for the M.B.B.S. course as prescribed by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The curriculum includes syllabus on General Microbiology, Immunology, Systemic Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, etc. Microbiology is taught during the III, IV and V term of the M.B.B.S. course spanning over a period of 18 months. The application of Microbiology plays a crucial role in the practice of medicine for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. The department strives to provide up-to-date knowledge in Microbiology to undergraduate students based on the principles of medical education.
